From the Ground Up
In collaboration with Studio Luz Architects, we prepared this proposal in response to the ‘Innovative Green Homes’ design competition organized by Syracuse University. The challenge was to design prototype housing and landscapes for a low-income community that would be inexpensive, thoroughly sustainable and completely innovative. We designed landscape plantings and other elements to work harmoniously with the architecture to provide cooling in summer and protection from winter winds during colder months. Thoughtful choices in materials were made to assure appropriate on-site stormwater management and rainwater harvesting to reduce impact on water resources and avoid contributing to an already overburdened municipal infrastructure.
