Pie in the Sky
This greenroof atop the Intercontinental Hotel tower on Boston’s waterfront was designed for a prominent author who requested a quiet verdant setting for writing and enjoying the panoramic views of the ocean. An additional principal concern for this project was to provide a place for the client’s pampered penthouse pooch to answer nature’s call. The green border was constructed of 17 custom-designed modular aluminum planters, sized to be brought to the roof via freight elevator. The planter frames were carefully designed to be lower in height at the front to allow the aging canine to step easily into the planter, and higher in back to allow for larger plantings. The garden was assembled in only a few hours and consecrated that same day.
