Zhoushan Mixed-Use Development
This master plan was developed in collaboration with Paul Lukez Architecture as part of an invited competition to develop proposals for a master plan of a newly developed business district. As the winning entry, our team created a design which met the programmatic needs for a high density development while respecting and working with the site’s natural ecology.
In contrast to the traditional development patterns in the area, which have drastically altered the natural topography, our design embraced and celebrated the existing landforms. Following this approach, the programmatic requirements of multiple towers, housing hotels and offices were integrated into existing or new mounds, offering a new type of urban environment in this part of China. Extensive use of accessible green roofs that blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape creates the illusion of a continuous, undulating ground plane.
